HARRY POTTER & THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE :REVIEW REVIEW!
Alright, I really honestly think that this HP movies is a SO-SO one. (note: not even close to great. If you are into all that cinematography thingy thingy. Or if you are a visual person. VERY visual person. Why?
Read on.. Read on.. SPOILERS UP AHEAD! (Don't say I didn't warn you :D)
The Visuals.
The graphic is simply.. Wonderful. I could just say that out of all the Harry Potter movies (in terms of GRAPHICS only) this takes the cake. I love how they are very detailed about the props. My favourite scence is when they entered a cave to look for a missing Horcrux. The cave was magnificent. The Inferis, the part of which Harry falling into the lake – beautiful visual! I was half hoping that the Inferis( to those who don't know what they are- they are the corpses controlled by Dark Magic.) would be something like the dead bodies in the Lake in LOTR movie. Blue eyed, wispy hair etc.. But they looked duplicates of Gollum. Or more like house elves. Oh well.
The Acting & Script.
If only they placed the same amount of detail in the acting and scripts. That's one of my gripes about this movie. It's like they have this lethargic vibe coming off the actors/actress. Frankly speaking, the way they acted are just so.. Bleh.
I mean, fake laughter? Movements that are so groggy that even I felt lethargic watching them! In this movie, we've seen loads of Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton hotness!) but he seemed to be going around with the moody look on his face and literally hiding in corners. LIKE WTH PEOPLE? Emo kid much?
And I've not even come to the part of the scripts. I hate the script. Whoever who wrote the script should be shot and gutted. One liners are a absolute NO NOs. One liner JOKES are even WORSE! Coupled with lackluster acting, everything = Major FAIL.
One of the things that I actually like about the other Harry Potter movies are the script. Ron with his famous : "Bloody Hell." And Dumbledore with his words of wisdom. To think of it, Prisoner of Azkaban has one of the best scripts. Scripts- IMHO are the most memorable part of the movie. You have people quoting Arnold in Terminator " Hasta La Vista Baby" and Star Wars " May the force be with you" til even now, so this really failed badly for me.
The only saving grace was Prof Slughorn. I like that guy. He potrayed Slughorn perfectly. *smiles*
Relevancy of story to Book.
If you are even half hoping that the movie would have any link to the book, then I'll have to say that you will be greatly disappointed.I've re-read HBp again and boy was even more disappointed.
I can stand horrible scripts but DEFFO
not horrible acting or in this case, where you are trying to adapt the movie from a book – the lack of link between movie and book. I HATE
that.
The movie misses out on A LOT of major parts. For example, there is ABSOLUTELY no fight scene whatsoever .Yepp, you read it right! No fight scene! The only "passable" fight scene is when Harry uses the curse created by the HBP on Draco in the toilet. That's all.
Here is a list on what they missed out:
1)The opening scene – Bellatrix and Narcissa looking for Severus. (It gotten mixed up)
2)The DeathEaters entering the castle and fighting with the students.
(Which would make a great fight scene)
3)Fluer staying over at the Burrows/ Bill Weasley being bitten by Fenrir Greyback.
4) Dumbledore's FUNERAL! (WTFFFF CAN?)
All in all, the movie is a cut and paste thing. The director totally messed up the sequence to the point that my friends who watch the movie with me – she has never read the books but she watched the movies faithfully became confused with the plot.
It was draggy all the way at the front and when coming to the end it became abrupt. Hell, the ending was abrupt! The movie does not have the sense of fear or a looming war, but instead, its just dark with a large dose of emotional factor. There's no mention of Sirius death. Nothing.
I've got a feeling that producers/everyone involved in the making of this movie, blown their budget more on the visual effects for the first half of the movie before realizing that they do not have enough $$$ to create fight scene and Dumbledore's funeral.
Half of the things in the first half of the movie are not even relevant can? READ: Collapsing bridges – We can do without. It looks like the movie has not been properly planned out.
Disappointing really.
Summary:
All in all, I feel like I'm losing faith in watching Harry Potter movie, I'm a self-proclaimed die-hard fan and when it comes to this, I couldn't help but feel.. Cheated.
I heard that the final movie is directed by the same dude, and I've got a sinking feeling that the last movie could also be a failure. It's like looking at nicely wrapped up box, but empty in the inside. Simply said, the movie does not do the book justice.
However, if you have read the books, know the plot inside out, then this movie could work for you as it is more of a summary of the story than anything else. But placed in a different perspective.
PHEW!
